Pokémon este o franciza media controlata de Nintendo si creata de Satoshi Tajiri în anul 1996 (si-a sarbatorit cea de-a unsprezecea aniversare pe 27 februarie 2007). Numele Pokémon este o abreviere a cuvintelor Pocket Monsters, ce în traducere înseamna monstri de buzunar.

Seria de jocuri video Pokémon este una dintre cele mai populare francize RPG de la Nintendo. Este creata de catre firma Game Freak, înfiintata de Satoshi Tajiri în 1989. Un alt membru important al firmei este Ken Sugimori, artistul ce a desenat toti 493 de Pokémon-i. Unele personaje de la Pokémon (Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Pichu, Mewtwo) au aparut si în seria de jocuri Super Smash Bros., alaturi de alte personaje cunoscute de la Nintendo. via wikipedia
